Buffaloes are economical and popular animal with farmers;
in Asia where around 97 percent (165.4 million) of the world's buffaloes (170.5
million) are found. India has almost 59 percent followed by Pakistan (15
percent) and China (13.8 percent) of the world's buffalo population. Thus three
most populous countries of the Asian continent own almost 87 percent of the
Asian buffalo wealth. Pakistan has best buffalo breeds with high milk yield.
The milk and meat of the buffalo is considered better than other cattle.
Eminent researchers say that Pakistani Nili Ravi origin
buffalo has been ranked the best in the world for excellent milk yield and
dairy products. It is added here that buffalo has been an integral part of
livestock agriculture in this region for over 5000 years producing milk, meat and hides.

ReplyDeleteIt seems to be good and very big when data says that Pakistan is the 5th largest producer of milk from a herd of 50 million with average less than 1,000 litres milk per lactation period per cattle. Yet it imports value added milk products to meet its growing demand. On comparison with Australia that has only herd of 1.6 million that gives 5,600 litres milk per lactation period per cattle. Just imagine if Pakistan had the same milking average of Australia, where we would be and not being the 1st largest milk producing country for in the world?
