Pakistan is included in
the list of climate change vulnerable countries. Met Office has warned that
global warming has turned to a dangerous level in the world having serious
implications on the countries around the Equator. The rising global
temperatures might cause Pakistan’s most looked forward season of the year,
spring to end completely.
The effects of climate
change and global warming on Pakistan, the melting of glaciers in the
Himalayas, threatening the volumetric flow rate of many of the most important
rivers of Pakistan. In future Spring season in Pakistan is being short and
summer will increase. To overcome the shortage of water after melting of
glaciers in the north; Pakistan has to use existing polluted water for agriculture
after its treatment.
Climate Change Mitigation
Pakistan's greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions are low compared to international
standards.

Wildlife
animals are kept in the zoo not only for a recreational purpose, but it is also
used for creating awareness of wildlife conservation and broader environmental
issues. It is a centre for conservation through captive breeding and research
on these animals.
The Lahore
Zoo was established in 1872. It is located at 92 - Shahr-e-Quaid - e - Azam, (Mall Road) Lahore, Pakistan; in the heart
of the city. It is easily accessible to the people belonging to all walks of
life and irrespective of age. It opens daily from 8: 00 a.m. till evening 1/2
Hour before the Sunset.
It is one
of the oldest zoos in the world. It started as a small aviary that was donated
by Mr. Lal Mahundra Ram. Gradually it developed and its animal collection also
increased, today the Zoo houses about 1381 animals of 136 species including 996
birds of 82 species, 49 reptiles of 08 species and 336 mammals of 45 species.
It remained under the management of Lahore Municipal Corporation from 1872 to
1923. Thereafter, its control was given to Deputy Commissioner, Lahore until
1962. Then its management was placed under the Livestock and Dairy Development
Department. Finally the management of Lahore Zoo was entrusted to the Wildlife
& Parks Department in 1982. During the period 1872 to 1982, it remained a
small entity with very little development taking place. Since its transfer to
Wildlife Department 1982 there have occurred a number of changes in housing the
exhibits, layout of buildings, landscape pattern, administration etc with these
initiative/development it become self-financing organization and now it is
self-reliant
Lahore Zoo
gives a pleasant look of old and young trees; here are1280 trees of 71 species it
makes the environment worth living and visiting; with a complete ecosystem.
Pakistan
lacks positive recreational and leisure opportunities. Families choose visiting
zoo for a whole day picnic with their children; as such huge crowds are
attracted by zoos and safari parks on weekends and holidays. People coming from
different walks of life and irrespective of the age visit the zoo. This neutral
gathering can also be utilized as an opportunity for consumer’s education by
the companies offering different products and services, by adopting few animals
and displaying their message on their cages and avail the mileage of their
expense. Outer side of parameter wall of a zoo can also be utilized for
commercial purposes for displaying advertisements etc; that can generate
revenue for the institution. Now come to the present era opportunities offered
by the internet one can start online zoo by putting a camera near the cage and
display (24/7) one’s products and services on one’s website for the information
of general public.

Methane clathrate (CH4•5.75H2O), also called
methane hydrate, is a solid clathrate compound in which a large amount of
methane is trapped within a crystal structure of water, forming a solid similar
to ice. Latest research has confirmed, significant deposits of methane
clathrate have been found under
the sea bed.
The
biggest hindrance in the exploitation of gas hydrates had been the expansion
factor. One cubic foot of gas hydrates in subsurface yields 160 cubic feet of
gas at the surface. So while drilling, as the well enters the hydrate bed, the
overlying rock pressure is removed. The ice immediately liquefies to release
methane which is extremely difficult to control because of the expansion
factor, an operational hazard. Exploitation of the hydrates has been a
hazardous and expensive venture.
During
the near past Japan’s rising energy bill by a sharp increase in the country’s
fossil fuel imports has weighed heavily on its economy after the Fukushima
Daiichi nuclear crisis, which has all but halted Japan’s nuclear energy program.
Japan started work on the project of exploration of seabed methane and his
researchers have succeeded to overcome all the problems and told on 12th
March, 2013 (Tuesday) that they have extracted methane gas from offshore
deposits of methane hydrate. Japan’s experiment proves to be a real
breakthrough, and then the energy problem would be solved for a long time to
come. They have estimated 5 years for its commercial utilization.
It
is added here that presence of seabed methane along offshore Makran in Pakistan
has been discovered, having enormous potential, much larger than the gas
Pakistan have found onshore. These deposits can be explored and utilized for
the energy requirements of Pakistan for the benefit of its people.
