It
seems to be good and very big when data says that Pakistan is the 5th
largest producer of milk from a herd of 50 million with average less than 1,000
litres milk per lactation period per cattle. Yet it imports value added milk
products to meet its growing demand. On comparison with Australia that has only
herd of 1.6 million that gives 5,600 litres milk per lactation period per
cattle. Just imagine if Pakistan had the same milking average of Australia,
where we would be and not being the 1st largest milk producing
country for in the world?

Is
there something seriously wrong with our farming practices or simply we don’t
have the required cattle breed to match the world average?
Reply
to the above question is surely “yes” in both cases.
1.
Our
farming practices are out-dated required to be modernized.
2.
Most
of Pakistani farmers are proud in having good quality Ravi-Nili bufalos and
Sahiwal breed cows. It is the right time for their replacement with cross breed
herd.
